Short Description
When Grolier Desius returns from a confrontation with his family’s bitter enemy aboard a jonah—one of the living starships descended from Old Earth whales—he believes the worst is behind him. But in a civilization that has achieved unprecedented gender freedom, the deepest forms of violence still flourish in the shadows of family life.
As chaos begins to consume the Messioph community, Grolier uncovers devastating truths about his family’s past—secrets so difficult they have shaped not just his own life, but the lives of countless others. When one of the victims of generational trauma strikes back with unthinkable fury, the consequences threaten to consume entire worlds.
Racing through a web of family betrayals and institutional cover-ups, Grolier must confront how the most intimate violence can metastasize into civilization-threatening catastrophe. His choices will determine whether the bonds that hold the Humanitat together—including humanity’s ancient partnership with the jonahs—can survive the deadly legacy of buried trauma.
Messioph explores how personal wounds become political crises in this haunting second volume of Geoffreyjen Edwards’s fifteen-book series, The Ido Chronicles.
Long Description
“It was now, or never. He wished he had reached Siobhan earlier, had tried harder to reason with hir. Now, if he didn’t take this drastic step, the consequences could be catastrophic. He believed he didn’t have a choice. Despite the tremor in his hands, and a queasiness in his belly, he sent the activation signal…” —from Messioph: The First Book of Ido

About The Ido Chronicles
Hundreds of thousands of years in the future, humanity has spread across billions of worlds in the Humanitat—a vast region of the Milky Way where spindle cities float in gas giant atmospheres and biotech enables life in impossible environments. Civilization is guided by the Ido, a pan-galactic collective infrastructure that is part game, part oracle, part government. But as five competing factions vie for ascendancy—each with radically different visions for humanity’s future—the stage is set for the Crucium Crisis, a cataclysm that will reshape human civilization forever.
The Ido Chronicles is a fifteen-book “braided quintet” following five key players, one from each faction, as their lives intersect during humanity’s final crisis. Messioph: The First Book of Ido and Plenum: The First Book of Deo are the opening volumes of this sweeping future history in the tradition of Asimov, Le Guin, and Stapledon.
